Why You Should Choose a Professional Cleaning Service Over a Solo Cleaner
Let’s face it: we all love the idea of having a cleaner so we can kick our feet up, binge Netflix, and enjoy a spotless home without lifting a finger. But when it comes to deciding between a professional cleaning company and hiring a solo cleaner, there are some serious things to consider.
Spoiler Alert: The pros ALWAYS win.
Pros vs. Cons: Professional Cleaning Service vs. Solo Cleaner
Here’s a quick breakdown of why hiring a professional cleaning company beats going for the one-person team:
1. Reliability
Professional Service: We have a large team, so if your regular cleaner can’t make it for any reason, we’ve got plenty of backups. With us, your home gets cleaned on time, every time. Gotta last minute cancel on us? It’s going to be easier for our wonderful admin, Jess to juggle things in the background and reschedule your appointment to another day that suits both you AND us. With a solo show, they may not have the time to slot you in again that week if they’re busy, and they may get frustrated that you bailed on them last minute. Full Cleanse Cleaning gets it, and life always has a habit of getting in the way!
Solo Cleaner: If they’re sick, on holiday, or just ghost you (yep, it happens), you’re stuck with dust bunnies multiplying like rabbits. We find, in our local area, a good portion of solo cleaners tend to be mums, and we love that! However, we do understand also that with young kids, can come inconsistencies and unreliability. Kids get sick and need a day or two off from school (especially in the colder months), injure themselves on the playground, or sometimes Mums just had enough, feels burnt out and needs to cancel her whole week to recoup her spirits.
2. Quality Control
Professional Service: We have some serious systems in place— inductions, extensive on the job training new starter quality assurance checks plus many more. Have you got something out of the usual scope? We’ll make sure it never gets missed with thorough checklists, on the job supervisors, and managers every step of the way—to ensure consistency and our 5-Star top-notch quality every single clean.
Solo Cleaner: They might do a great job at first, but without oversight, standards can slip. Tiktok is popular… we know, and CleanTok is certainly a trending thing. Watching a couple of videos on cleaning may certainly help with some tips and tricks at your place, however, sometimes doesn’t make the smartest decision to go out and charge a pretty penny to professionally clean. Plus, who’s keeping them accountable for their own quality? Without the safeguarded practices of dealing with a professional company with systems that ensures their own work, this sometimes can make it difficult to address poor cleaning quality.
3. Insurance & Safety
Professional Service: We’re fully insured. What does that mean? We are comprehensively covered when we enter your property! If anything goes wrong (heaven forbid), you’re covered. We’re the first to own up to any breakages or damage that may occur, and we’re honest, some things have happened along the way. It’s how we deal with these issues that sets us apart from the rest. You can count on Full Cleanse Cleaning to demonstrate honesty and accountability, by rectifying any problem, as soon as we know about it!
Solo Cleaner: A lot of consumers don’t understand that with an tradesperson attending your property, if they aren’t insured themselves – YOU are liable for any accident or damage that happens on their end. This is EXTREMELY important when having a cleaner in your home, if they slip, trip, or fall, you may just end up footing the bill…. They use the wrong chemicals and damage your priceless marble or stone benchtop; you may be having a tricky conversation with them to cover those costs entirely. Always check to see whether your cleaner has the appropriate insurance, and don’t be afraid to see a Certificate of Currency as peace of mind. If they push back, be a little weary about bringing an uninsured tradesperson into your home!
4. Security Checks
Professional Service: Every team member of ours must provide a current police check, background screenings, and extensive vetting. We’ve got your safety covered.
Solo Cleaner: How much do you really know about someone you found offering the cheapest by 10% on the local community pages? Sometimes, the cheapest isn’t always the best bet, and people are always looking for quick money on big jobs! It’s a bit of a gamble. If you’re looking at going down a “cheaper” route – we advise you to do some of your own checks where possible. Nearly everyone has social media accounts these days, and while we know you can’t judge a book by it’s cover, take into consideration how a solo cleaner presents themselves publicly and more importantly, professionally.
5. Consistency and Flexibility
Professional Service: With a team at your disposal, we provide the flexibility to adapt to your schedule and preferences. Have regular appointments? Need to switch up a day next week, or gallivanting around Europe for a couple of weeks? Getting in touch is easier than ever, and we’re sure to pick up the phone to assist your needs. We’re always looking at innovative ways to adapt our services to stay consistent and flexible to suit our clients ever changing needs!
Solo Cleaner: One person can have a lot of things happening in their lives, and we totally understand. With hiring a solo cleaner, you’re dependent on one person’s availability and methods. If they leave town or quit, it’s back to square one. Sometimes we’ve found communication can be very inconsistent with solo cleaners, many may already be on the job and are unable to take your urgent call, some may be running their own errands and lives, and some just don’t even call you back. When you’re cleaning alone, it’s a big job and without a supportive team around you, it can be easy to give up, even on yourself and the clients they have taken on!
6. Product and Equipment Quality
Professional Service: Our team uses the best, and only the best. Our education behind cleaning allows us to source top-shelf cleaning products, priding ourselves on using a chemical range called Enzyme Wizard to HEPA Filter approved backpack vacuums from Pullman and PacVac. These products are specially designed for commercial use and are better suited for breaking down grime and dirt long after we are gone! Occasionally, we may need to use something a little harsher, but rest assured we have extensive SDS’s in place to ensure safe methods are practiced and PPE is always worn to protect our incredible staff! Keep an eye out for what professional companies are using, we’ve seen some use Dawn dish soap for every single part of their cleaning. Don’t be afraid to ask what they’re using, and see whether it’s the right fit for your home!
Solo Cleaner: Let’s face it, supermarket products aren’t the best, but they do smell good. That’s the trap. Most cleaners unfortunately can’t invest in the top-quality products and are stuck using the standard stuff. These products work ok, however aren’t made deeper cleaning uses, requiring more time (and time means $) to get the same results. If your solo cleaner leaves your home smelling like a (pardon my French), chemical shit-show, just know you can find better at a reasonable price. BEWARE – If your solo cleaner EVER brings bleach into your home, I advise you to look elsewhere. Many cleaners use bleach with other products, like vinegar because its cheap, but run the risk of mixing chemicals to create toxic gases. Education around chemicals in this industry is paramount, and most unprofessional cleaners just don’t know what to use, or really, how to use it!
Price Points & Quoting: Tailored for Your Home
One of the biggest misconceptions about hiring a professional cleaning company is that it’s always more expensive than hiring a solo cleaner. Sure, on the surface, our prices might be a bit higher, but here’s the thing—you’re getting what you pay for, and then some.
We take the guesswork out of quoting. No vague estimates or random charges. We’ve got extensive calculators that help us provide tailored quotes based on your home’s specific needs. We’ll ask the right questions, at the right time, to streamline our quoting process and ensure we’re on the same page. We won’t just show up to your house and have you pay us $150 and you’re not sure exactly what you’ll be getting… Whether you’re looking for a quick one-off clean or regular weekly visits, we calculate everything from the size of your space to the type of cleaning required.
Here's how we make it simple:
Personalized Quotes: We don’t do one-size-fits-all. Our quoting process is designed to give you an accurate, transparent price based on your unique requirements. You tell us what you need, and we’ll provide the best price to get the job done right.
No Hidden Fees: What we quote is what you pay. No surprises, no hidden charges creeping in after the fact.
Flexible Pricing Options: Need more than just a standard clean? We can include extras like deep cleans, end-of-lease cleans, or post-renovation services. Our calculators are flexible, and so are we.
Easy Quote Process: We can either do this over the phone, where you provide us a few details, or for tricky or unusual jobs, we can come to your place to assess your needs and offer a free in-home consultation. Either way, we’ll make sure you get a proper, tailored quote that fits your budget and expectations.
So, if you’re worried about costs, remember—we’ve got calculators, and not the boring high-school-math ones either. We’re talking about price calculators that make sure you're getting the best bang for your buck, all while maintaining the highest standards of service. That’s value that lasts beyond the clean!
A Personal Experience: Time and Money Lost
A few months ago, I hired a local solo cleaner. Our home needed one, I’ll tell ya. With running two business, it was starting to get a head of us and we wanted to support local who we saw on the community pages. We chose not to use our company’s cleaners as we didn’t want this to interfere with our working relationship, however still wanted that feeling of coming home to an impeccably cleaned home – just like our own clients’ experience.
It seemed like a great idea at first. She was friendly, lived nearby, and gave me a competitive rate. But… well, things went downhill pretty fast.
Let me break it down:
Poor Communication: We gave her a general idea of things we’d like to be done, and we found her communication to blunt, delayed and borderline rude. As she was mopping out, we asked how everything went and if she had enough time, and she replied that it all went well! Needless to say, we were so let down and disappointed after having a look at the work.
Lack of quoting knowledge: She failed to ask any further questions about the house, even we prompted her to collect more information, she said she had enough info. As a professional, it’s imperative to know the size and materials of what you’re walking into – you never know what special products or methods you might need! This lack of info led to our house being grossly underquoted and an incorrect timeframe being provided for the cleaning service.
Poor quality: Due to failure of quoting properly she underquoted herself, and heavily under delivered. Our priorities were 2x main bathrooms, dishes and floors – to which one bathroom was completely missed. Dishes were washed with cold water and no dishwashing liquid, with grease stains left on everything. Half of the house vacuuming was missed, and there were coffee stains on the tiles and streak marks everywhere.
Unprofessionalism: We we’re unsure if she knew we were working both working from home in the office, she took a call from what sounded like her boyfriend, and I kid you not, proceeded to call him a c*nt while outside our office door and had a phone argument with him.
Awkward Conversation: After she had finished up and left, she sent us a txt message with just the bank account to pay – no follow up to see our thoughts on the clean, or to thank us, or even book a another appointment. We then had to bring up uncomfortably how dissatisfied we we’re at the quality of the clean. She then only replied with “I must have run out of time.” Much to our hesitancy, we decided to just pay the full amount, politely provide her feedback and did not book her further.
As a professional cleaning business owner, I am still absolutely gobsmacked that solo cleaners can charge a quality rate and provide a level of customer service and cleaning quality like that! I do understand that this is truly not the case for majority of those solo cleaners (some are absolute gems), I guess we just got the bad egg. In my humble opinion, if that is what the going rate is for that kind of service and quality, we could happily double our prices!
After that disheartening experience, I swore I’d only go with a professional service from then on, and you know what? Life has been way less stressful after dealing with a proper company.
