10 Tips for Maintaining a Clean and Organised Home

Updated: Sep 15

Welcome to the Full Cleanse Cleaning Blog!

We know how challenging it can be to keep your home clean and organised, especially with busy schedules and daily demands. Whether you're a working professional, a parent, or just someone who wants a cleaner living space, we've got you covered.

Here are our top 10 tips for maintaining a clean and organised home:

1. Develop a Cleaning Schedule

Consistency is definitely the key when it comes to keeping your home clean. Create a weekly cleaning schedule that breaks down tasks into manageable chunks. For example, dedicate Mondays to dusting, Tuesdays to vacuuming, and so on. Stick to this schedule to prevent chores from piling up. I am the absolute worst for saying “ah, I’ll just get it all done on the weekend…” The weekend comes around, and I just CANNOT be F**KED picking up the dish brush, let alone committing to the full vac and mop. Bite size chunks of cleaning is certainly the way to go!!

2. Declutter Regularly

Clutter can make even the cleanest homes feel chaotic. Set aside time each month to declutter and get rid of items you no longer need. It’s amazing how much stuff can build up, without you even realising it. We love it when Halloween comes around, and TK Max has Brough out some spooky mugs and coffee cups - before we know it, we have 3 cupboards dedicated to our mugs! (That reminds me, I have to try and convince my other half to cull our prized spooky cup collection before it gets even further out of control 😂 👻 ).

Donate, recycle, or toss items that are taking up unnecessary space. Try your local charity store, or even start up a little drive in your local community to give away and share your used goods. Remember the ol’ saying “One woman’s trash, is another woman’s treasure.”

3. Make The Bed Every Morning & Fold Washing Every Night

Starting your day by making your bed can set a positive tone and make your bedroom instantly look tidier. This seems so simple, but majority of us struggle with this! We’ve all had those periods we’re we’ve sworn we’ll go on top of it, and it sticks for a day or two, and then poof, back to normal. Try allocating an extra 5 minutes to wake up early and hop out of bed to complete this small task - you know it makes you feel ELITE! Now, at night time, instead of moving that doom washing pile from the bed back onto the chair, fold 10 items of clothing and put them away. CHUNK AWAY AT IT! The key is to do SMALL parts everyday, and it’s a short task that can have a big impact on the overall appearance of your room. 👙👔 🛏️

4. Clean as You Go

Instead of letting dishes pile up or leaving spills for later, clean as you go. Wash dishes immediately after meals, wipe down counters after cooking, and put away items after using them. 🥗🔪 I have a little trick that i learned. Ready? Every time i get up to go to another room - i find something that i need to return to that area. This way, I’m cleaning up as I’m going along without even realising it! This habit prevents messes from accumulating to a point where you can sometimes get paralysis - and then NOTHING gets done.

5. Create Storage Solutions

Invest in storage solutions that fit your needs. Use bins, baskets, and shelves to organise items in each room. Those Kmart storage cubes can be a fantastic way to cheaply organise your clothes and items into tidy stacks. We all dream of having our home feature on the home organising and declutterring shows - so let’s take care of it ourselves! Once again, start small, buy a couple of kitchen storage jars, or plastic clothes tubs each time you go out, and take bite size pieces out of the big job ahead of you! 🫙Remember to label containers to make it easy to find what you need. Effective storage solutions can help keep your home neat and organised.

6. Focus on High-Traffic Areas

Certain areas of your home, like the kitchen and living room, tend to get messier faster. Pay extra attention to these high-traffic areas by cleaning them more frequently. Remember that these frequently used areas also build up DEEP grime and dirt as well. 🧼 Keeping them tidy everyday sometimes isn’t enough, however when they remain clean on a day to day basis - it certainly makes it easier to want to pull out those deep cleaning chemicals and get to work! Even better - call the team here at Full Cleanse Cleaning, and we can take care of the hard, dirty work for you! We can most certainly ensure that your home, your sanctuary always looks presentable, especially when those in-laws might pop around at any time! 😱

7. Use Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products

Protect your home and the environment by using eco-friendly cleaning products. 🍃 These products are free from harsh chemicals and safe for your family and pets. Plus, they work just as effectively as conventional cleaners. Check out our other blog dedicated to “Green Cleaning” and learn how utilising these products can not only benefit you, your family and pets - but also the environment! 🌏

8. Delegate Chores

If you live with family members or roommates, delegate cleaning tasks to share the load. Gosh, even create a gold star chart if you must! Create a chore chart to assign specific duties to each person. Teamwork makes maintaining a clean home much easier. 📊

TOP TIP - My sister in law and her parter came up with a great idea for giving each task (quest) a “points value” for how difficult each task was for each individually. When then racked up enough points, they were rewarded with a treat of their choice by “cashing in” their points. 💯 An idea like this may sound a little silly to some, however the everyday struggles of keeping on top of the chores can be difficult for many. We ALL love a reward, and this is a great way to create a fun way to motivate each other and keep on top of those mundane chores

9. Tackle One Room at a Time

When cleaning, focus on one room at a time instead of trying to clean the entire house in one go. This one is a simple, however effective tip! This approach prevents you from feeling overwhelmed and allows you to see progress more clearly. I used to start at one end of the house and work my way towards the rewards areas (theatre, or computer room). 💻 🎮 This way it was in my head about a reward system again. Do the work first, then you get to play. Try blasting some music, popping on a movie in the background, or if you’re feeling a bit cheeky, treat yourself to a glass of wine and plod along around the house 🍷

10. Hire Professional Cleaning Services
